My Personal Journey with NASA
A Spark of Inspiration
My fascination with space exploration has always burned bright. So, when the opportunity arose to participate in a NASA research and engineering project during high school, I seized it with the enthusiasm of a mission commander. The task was daunting – researching a topic related to “Watching the Earth Change” and crafting a hefty 100+ page paper.
At first, I felt like a lone explorer adrift in a sea of information. The vast theme was overwhelming. But then, inspiration struck like a meteor shower! While watching a movie with my family, a scene depicting a devastating dust storm and its catastrophic consequences resonated deeply. This sparked an idea: I would investigate the devastating impacts of natural disasters on communities.
The NASA project pushed me further than any academic challenge before. Months of dedicated research loomed, the deadline approaching like a rocket launch countdown. Yet, I persevered. Countless hours were spent researching, interviewing experts, and meticulously analyzing data. My dedication paid off as I was selected as the 1st place national winner! This life-changing experience not only boosted my confidence but equipped me with invaluable skills that I continue to utilize today.
Team SOAR’s Triumph
A Testament to Collaboration
One of my proudest moments as an educator was witnessing Team SOAR, a group of brilliant and dedicated students – Samyak, Om, Aashish, and Rohil – soar to victory in the 2021 NASA competition. Their project, “ROADS on Asteroids,” showcased their innovative approach to space exploration.
But their journey wasn’t without challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic forced them to adapt, navigating the complexities of remote learning and finding innovative ways to collaborate online. Despite these obstacles, their teamwork shone brighter than a supernova. Countless virtual meetings, shared ideas, and unwavering support for one another propelled them forward.
Their hard work and dedication culminated in a historic victory. Team SOAR’s first-place finish in the NASA competition was a testament to the power of collaboration and perseverance. Their success not only inspired their peers but also served as a shining example of the potential unleashed by project-based learning.

Continuing our stellar exploration, let’s meet another incredible team – the Moon Surfers! This group of enthusiastic students – Isaiah, Daniel, Darya, Evan, and Alex – named themselves after their shared love of water sports, a reflection of their adventurous spirit and thirst for discovery. In 2023, they secured first place in the NASA competition with their research on the Artemis mission!
Fueled by their adventurous spirits, Team Moon Surfers embarked on a mission to delve into the complexities of lunar exploration. Their project focused on the Artemis mission, tackling challenges related to lunar habitats, transportation, and resource management.
Their dedication paid off in a rewarding journey. The team’s first-place finish in the NASA competition earned them an unforgettable experience – an all-expenses-paid trip to Kennedy Space Center! Witnessing a live rocket launch was a moment etched forever in their memories. This experience solidified their passion for space exploration and ignited a fire within them to pursue their dreams.
